Four Athletes Meet Provisional Qualifying Standards

Clemson, SC – Four Clemson track and field student-athletes met provisional qualifying standards set by the NCAA for the 2001 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships to be held March 9-10 in Fayetteville, AR. Two members of the women’s team and two members of the men’s team provisionally qualified during last Friday’s Clemson Opener at Littlejohn Coliseum.

On the women’s team, Jamine Moton provisionally qualified in the shot put with a mark of 15.33 meters, or 50’03.50″. The required mark set by the NCAA is 14.90 meters or 48’13/4″. Shekera Weston met the provisional qualifying time of 7.38 in the 60m dash. That time is just shy of the automatic qualifying time of 7.30 for the 60m dash.

Sultan Tucker and Todd Matthews both recorded provisional qualifying times in the 60m high hurdles. Tucker edged his teammate to win the event in a time of 7.88 while Matthews recorded a time of 7.89.

The Tigers are idle until Jan. 19-20 when they host the Clemson Invitational.
