Former Lady Tiger Pole Vaulter Sets PR At Ibero-American Games

Aug. 24, 2004

HUELVA, SPAIN – Former Clemson women’s track and field standout Joana Costa recorded a career-best performance at the Iber-American Games earlier this month. The meet, held in Huelva, Spain, is held for athletes from Spain, Portugal and their former colonies. Costa cleared 13’5.25″/4.10m to place sixth in the meet. Costa, a native of Brazil, lettered for the Lady Tigers from 2000-2003. She was the first Lady Tiger pole vaulter to advance to the NCAA Championships in that event, and completed her career ranked second on Clemson’s all-time list in the pole vault. Costa also earned All-East Region honors in 2003, and was the 2000 ACC Indoor pole vault champion.
