Floyd Named Preseason First Team All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke received 48 of 48 first place votes to finish unanimously atop the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball preseason poll, conducted today, at the 12th annual ACC Women’s Basketball Media Day.

The North Carolina Tar Heels followed the Blue Devils in the balloting, while Virginia finished third. NC State finished fourth in the voting and the Tigers of Clemson were fifth.

Georgia Tech was sixth, followed in the seventh slot by the Maryland Terrapins. Florida State and Wake Forest rounded out the poll tied for eighth.

In balloting for the 2002-03 preseason All-Conference team, Duke junior Alana Beard was named to the team along with North Carolina’s Coretta Brown, Chrissy Floyd of Clemson, Iciss Tillis of the Duke Blue Devils and the last year’s ACC Rookie of the Year Brandi Teamer of Virginia.

Beard, the 2002 ACC Player of the Year and first-team All-Conference performer, was the unanimous selection as the league’s preseason Player of the Year, while Tar Heel freshman La’Tangela Atkinson was tabbed as the ACC preseason Rookie of the Year.
