Field Set for 2015 ACC Men?s Soccer Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest and North Carolina hold the top two seeds for the 29th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Championship, set to begin on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The Demon Deacons, led by first year head coach Bobby Muuss, finished the regular season with 20 points in league play to clinch the Atlantic Division title and the top overall seed. Ranked No. 2 in this week’s NSCAA Poll, Wake Forest (14-1-2, 6-0-2 ACC) will open play in the tournament when it hosts the winner of No. 8 Duke (10-6-2, 3-4-1) and No. 9 Louisville (6-8-3, 1-4-3) in the quarterfinals.

Second-seeded North Carolina (14-1-2, 6-1-1), currently ranked No. 5, earned the Coastal Division title with 19 points and will host a quarterfinal match against the winner of No. 10 NC State (8-5-3, 1-4-3) and No. 7 Syracuse (10-5-2, 3-4-1).

Clemson (14-1-2, 6-1-1), the defending league champion, claimed the No. 3 seed with 19 points in ACC play and is ranked No. 3 nationally. The Tigers will host sixth-seeded Boston College (9-6-1, 4-4-0) in the quarterfinals.

No. 4 Notre Dame (9-3-5, 4-2-2) will host No. 5 Virginia (9-3-3, 4-2-2) in the quarterfinals in a matchup of the last two national champions. The Irish and Cavaliers met in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship last year, with Notre Dame claiming a 3-0 victory.

All four rounds of the ACC Championship will be held on the campus of the higher seed. The first round will be held on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., followed by the quarterfinals on Nov. 8 at 1 p.m., the semifinals on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., and the championship on Nov. 15 at 1 p.m.

The 10 teams in the ACC Championship are all ranked in the top 30 spots of the NCAA RPI and all have been ranked this season in a national poll. The league squads have combined to post a 75-19-11 (.767) record against nonconference competition, the best mark in the country.
