Doubles Duo Baudry, Liu Advance to Quarterfinals at ITA Regionals

CLEMSON, S.C. – A run to the quarterfinals by Simon Baudry and Yizhou Liu highlighted the Clemson men’s tennis team’s performance at the 2018 ITA Carolina Regional Championship, hosted by Duke last weekend.

Baudry and Liu’s first round opponent was Luiz Faria and Pyry Hyrkkoken out of Coastal Carolina, and the Clemson duo won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. They then faced Jake Beasley and Joe Brailovsky from South Carolina and battled back to a tiebreak after losing the first set to ultimately go on to win 4-6, 7-6 (2), 10-2. In the third round, Baudry and Liu faced a matchup with UNC-Wilmington’s Michael Copeland and Cole Groetsch, which they also won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinals, where they fell to Oli Nolan and Henry Patton of UNC-Asheville, 6-4, 6-3.

In singles play, Gabriel Diaz-Freire and Teodor Giusca had the two best performances for the Tigers, with the former defeating opponents from North Carolina A&T State and Duke, and the latter emerging victorious over opponents from Elon and UNC-Wilmington.
