We recently had an outstanding crowd at Littlejohn Coliseum to view the Orange-White men’s basketball scrimmage. While walking around visiting with those attending, you could sense the optimism and excitement among our fans and supporters.
Coach Oliver Purnell has done an awfully good job of building the program block by block. He has good, solid performers as well as good solid people in his program. I’m proud of how Oliver is developing Tiger Basketball.
On the women’s side, Cristy McKinney has done a very good job toward rebuilding the program. Her recruiting continues to be good and she has a lot of young players who will see playing time this year.
I have very strong confidence that within the next few years our women’s program will be back — at a minimum — to the level we once had. I am optimistic that she will take it beyond that level.
All in all, our men’s and women’s basketball programs are making significant progress and our future looks to be very bright.
