Cross Country to Compete at Southeast Region Meet

CLEMSON, N.C. – The Clemson men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the Southeast Region (District III) cross country meet Saturday at Furman. The men’s race will begin at 10 a.m., with the men’s race following at 11 a.m.

The top two teams in each region race will qualify automatically for the NCAA meet, and 13 other teams nationally will earn at-large bids to the NCAA meet. The top four individual finishers in each race that are not associated with the top two teams will also qualify automatically for the NCAA Championship meet.

In the women’s race, four teams are ranked among the nation’s top-20 teams. ACC Champion N.C. State ranks seventh, and William and Mary is currently ranked 12th. Two other ACC teams are in the top 20, North Carolina (18) and Wake Forest (19).

Clemson all-ACC runners Beth Ahern (seventh at ACC meet) and Julianne Littman (10th at league meet) will be vying for top individual spots in the race.

In the men’s race, N.C. State ranks fifth nationally. James Madison holds a 17th-place ranking, and William and Mary is currently 22nd. Duke is ranked 30th.

Clemson all-ACC runner Joe Gibson was the runner-up at the league meet and will look to contend for a top individual finish in the race.
