Cross Country Season Starts This Weekend for Clemson

Aug. 28, 2008

Clemson, SC – The cross country season will officially get underway this weekend for Clemson, with both men and women competing in Boone, NC at the Covered Bridge Open. The 5K women’s race is scheduled for Friday at 5:30 PM, while the men’s 8000m run is set for 6:15 at State Farm Fields.

Eight student-athletes will make the trip for the women’s team, while six will compete on the men’s side. Senior captains Sunday Ford and Candice Johnson headline the women’s group. Both have earned letters with the Clemson program in the past, and both are part of an experienced roster on the women’s side.

Also traveling from the women’s team will be Lisa Brown, Joanie Castagno, Abby Iselborn, Lauren Klas, Brannon Sulka, and Ashley Vaughn.

Men’s seniors Sam Bryfczynski and Bryce Iverson will not be competing Friday. However, captain Will Noble will be one of the six running for the Tigers. He displayed tremendous improvement last year in cross country, but is returning from an injury-plagued track & field season in 2008.

Also competing from the men’s team will be Tyler Morey, Shane Reighard, Chris Slate, Jonathan Sunde, and Jasen Turnbull.
