The Clemson women’s tennis team is ranked in a tie for 13th in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. The Tigers were 16-8 a season ago, and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.  The Tigers also have four singles players and one doubles team ranked in the preseason polls. Beatrice Gumulya, a 2013 All-ACC selection and 2nd Round NCAA participant earned Clemson’s top ranking at 44th in the nation.  Romy Koelzer earned a career-best ranking of 51st, while 2013 All-American, NCAA Quarterfinalist, and ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year Yana Koroleva comes in at 74th. Also included in the singles ranking for the first time is Tristen Dewar, who went 10-3 during the fall. She checks in at No. 103 in the preseason ranks.  The doubles teams of Koelzer and Jessy Rompies earned a No. 49 ranking in doubles after going 2-1 together at the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying rounds.  The Tigers open up play on Jan. 18, and have a schedule that features eight opponents ranked in the top-25. The ACC has a total of eight teams ranked in the top-25, and five of the top 14.  Clemson is one of just 12 schools nationally to boast top-25 teams on both the men’s and women’s side. Chuck McCuen’s men’s squad is ranked 21st in the preseason poll.
