Clemson’s Women’s Tennis Completes First Day at USTA Women’s Invitational

Oct. 8, 2005

NEW YORK, NY – The Clemson women’s tennis team completed the first day of competition at the USTA National Tennis Center Women’s College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8 in New York City. The Tigers claimed two flight championships while posting 10 set wins in 11 total pro sets played.

Inclement weather forced play to several different indoor locations, but the changes did not affect the Clemson teams. In the flight one bracket of the A draw, Daniela Alvarez and Federica van Adrichem won three matches to claim the flight championship. Maria Brito paired with Carol Salge in the B draw to capture the flight two title after winning three contests. Tiger Kathi Gerber competed in doubles with a Princeton player and won two of her three matches. Gerber’s team won its first round contest before falling in the second round. They then won their consolation match to finish in third-place.

Sunday’s singles matches will begin at 8:30 AM at the USTA National Tennis Center, home of the US Open, weather permitting.
