CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team hosted the 13th Annual ACC Rowing Championships on Lake Hartwell on Saturday morning. The Tigers finished second in team points behind Virginia, who captured its third-straight, and 12th overall, conference crown.

In the first official race of the day, Clemson’s Varsity 4 won the Tigers’ first Varsity 4 title since 2009. The crew of Carissa Richardson, Taylor Hoynacki, Katie Mosier, Rebekah Clogston, and Kenzie DuBrul posted a time of 7:37.9 to defeat second-place Duke (7:46.6) and third-place Virginia (7:47.1). The Tigers’ victory marked only the fifth time Virginia has lost an event in the 13-year history of the ACC Championships.

In the Novice 8 race, the Tigers recorded a second-place finish behind Virginia. The Tigers finished ahead of Duke, Boston College, and North Carolina, but led the team points after two races. The 2nd Varsity 8 race again saw the Tigers finish behind the Cavaliers and tied the team points at 32.

The ACC team crown came down to the final race of the day, the Varsity 8. It was a tight battle all the way down the racecourse, but Virginia was able to pull away from the Tigers in the end to capture their 12th conference title.

Becca Brown, Heather Cummings, and Kate Biladeau were named to the All-ACC rowing team at the end of the day, the first career all-conference nod for each student-athlete.

The Tigers will travel to Columbus, OH and face Ohio State, Michigan, and Harvard next weekend beginning at 9:00 AM Saturday morning (April 28).
