Clemson’s Trahan Wins Second Round Match

Bloomfield Hills, MI – Clemson senior D.J. Trahan defeated Tennessee sophomore and England native David Skinns in the second round of the US Amateur on Thursday morning at Oakland Hills Country Club near Detroit. Trahan now advances to the Sweet 16 and will face Wake Forest rival Bill Haas on Thursday afternoon. The winner moves on to the quarterfinals.

Trahan defeated Skinns 2 and 1 in the morning match. Skinns won the first hole when Trahan made bogey on the par four hole. Trahan tied the count on the par three third when Skinns bogeyed. Skinns went back in front when he made a birdie on the fourth hole and he held that lead heading to the sixth hole.

Trahan then tied the match when Skinns bogeyed the 407-yard seventh hole. Trahan jumped back in the lead on the par three ninth when Skinns bogeyed. Trahan never trailed the remainder of the match. He took a 2up lead when he birdied the 15th, then closed out the match on 17 when both players made par.

Haas and Trahan will face off this afternoon in the round of 16. The match can be seen on ESPN starting at 2:30 PM.
