CLEMSON, SC – Clemson’s Silja Ulfarsdottir and Gisele Oliveira turned in regional qualifying performances at the Clemson Invitational, while Casey Phillips and Jennifer Barton joined them in the winner’s circle to lead the Lady Tigers to a third-place finish on Saturday. Georgia won the meet with 173 points, followed by Georgia Tech’s 164.5-point effort. Clemson amassed 124.5 points for third place, Virginia Tech finished fourth (70) points and St. John’s was fifth with 67 points. Western Carolina accumulated 52 points to edge Howard (51 points) for sixth place, and East Tennessee State finished eighth with 17 points.

In the 100m, Silja Ulfarsdottir qualified for the East Region Championships with her winning time of 59.18 in the 400m hurdles, and Sierra Hill finished third in the event in 1:02.04. Polly Hardy also scored in the intermediate hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:05.30. The Lady Tigers’ 4x100m relay team of Hinton, Ulfarsdottir, Hill and Miyamoto clocked a 47.28 en route to a fifth-place finish.

Gisele Oliveira finished second in the long jump with a regional qualifying mark of 20’3″, then she claimed the triple jump with a track-record and regional qualifying mark of 45’9″. Miyamoto posted a leap of 39’10.5″ to place fourth in the triple jump, and Michelle Rogers was also a scorer in the event with a seventh-place finish and mark of 39’2.25″. Della Clark led the Lady Tigers in the shot put with a third-place finish and mark of 45’1.5″, while Allison Bradshaw scored with her sixth-place finish and mark of 42’10.75″. In the discus throw, two season-best marks were set as Krystal Woods posted a runner-up finish and mark of 151’1″, and Mikaela Patterson placed sixth with her throw of 142’11”. Clark also scored in the hammer throw with a seventh-place finish and season-best mark of 166’4″. Woods finished fifth in the javelin with a mark of 131’7″, Christina Moore placed eighth with a mark of 109’11”.

The Lady Tiger track and field team returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 16 at the Solid Orange Classic.
