Clemson’s Nathan Thompson Named ACC Performer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s Nathan Thompson was tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week after leading the Tigers to three wins in league play, while posting victories in singles competition over three ranked opponents.

The senior from Baltimore, Md. started the week with pair of straight set victories over No. 20 Jose Muguruza of Georgia Tech (6-4, 6-3) and No. 64 Tim Krebs of Miami (6-4, 6-3). On Sunday against North Carolina, Thompson downed the Tar Heels’ Raian Luchici, ranked 63rd-nationally, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6. Thompson’s three singles victories came at the top singles flight.

In doubles play, Thompson and teammate Ryan Young compiled a 2-1 ledger at the number one doubles flight. The duo defeated a pair of ranked opponents in Miami’s Cohen/Hechtman, 9-7 and North Carolina’s Pomeroy/Boyd, 9-8.

Thompson and the Tigers are back in action on Tuesday as they host Arizona State at 1:30 pm and then travel to face Southern California on Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 pm.
