Clemson’s Matt Henrie Receives ACC Pitcher Of The Week Honors

Greensboro, NC – Clemson sophomore right-handed pitcher Matt Henrie was named ACC Pitcher of the Week while Wake Forest’s Cory Sullivan and Virginia’s Hunter Wyant shared ACC Player of the Week honors.

Pitcher of the Week honors were claimed by Clemson right-hander Matt Henrie. The sophomore, who hails from Jupiter, Fla., threw 8.1 innings on the week in games against Maryland and Georgia Southern. Henrie picked up his first win as a Clemson Tiger on Sunday against the Terps, pitching six innings and allowing just three hits, no runs and striking out five of the 25 batters he faced.

Sullivan, a senior outfielder earns a share of ACC Player of the Week after leading the Deacs in games against Appalachian State, Virginia Commonwealth and a three-game series at North Carolina. On the week, the Pittsburgh, Pa., native was 11 of 21 with ten runs, nine RBI, three doubles and two stolen bases. In the Demon Deacons’ three wins over the Tar Heels, Sullivan was 8 for 13 (.615) with seven runs and six RBI. He also made his first career start on the mound (March 18) and picked up the win while going 4 for 5 at the plate.

Wyant, a senior shortstop earns a share of ACC Player of the Week honors after leading Virginia in a three-game series with Duke, a two-game series with UNC Greensboro and a game with High Point. For the week, the White Hall, Va., native notched 15 hits, 12 RBI and a.682 batting average. He finished the week with 22 at-bats as well as contributing 11 runs, three doubles, four triples and a home run. Wyant also became the first player in Virginia history to hit for the cycle when he was 4 of 5 with three runs, five RBI, a double, triple and homerun against High Point.
