Clemson’s Kautz Advances To Semifinals Of 400m Hurdles At NCAA Outdoor Championships

SACRAMENTO, CA – On day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Clemson’s Scott Kautz qualified for the semifinals of the 400m hurdles, while teammate Ronald Richards competed in round one of the 200m dash. Kautz advances to Friday’s semifinals of the intermediate hurdles after clocking a 50.61 in the first round. The junior from Charleston, WV, turned in the 11th-fastest time of the qualifying round, and was a career-best effort. His previous personal-best time was 50.71 set at this year’s East Region Championships. The semifinals are set for 11:45 PM on Friday evening.

Also in action on Thursday, Ronald Richards competed in the first round of the 200m dash. The senior from Alexandria, VA, crossed the finish line in 21.36 and did not qualify for the finals. However, Richards will return to the track on Friday night at 11:20 PM ET to compete in the finals of the 100m dash.

Two other Tigers will also compete on Friday. Itay Magidi is in the hunt for his second All-America honor in the 3000m steeplechase, as that final is set for 9:50 PM ET. Off the track, Jason Bell will begin competition on Friday with the qualifying round of the triple jump, slated to begin at 8:00 PM ET.
