Clemson’s Julie Coin Advances to Third Round of ITA Southeast Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet competed for the Clemson women’s tennis team at the Omni Hotels/ITA Southeast Regional on Friday. Coin advanced to the third round of the singles draw, which was held at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, NC. The Tigers’ doubles team also advanced in Friday’s action.

Coin, the seventh-seeded player in the tournament, defeated Shannon Stough of Kentucky in the first round by a score of 6-2, 6-1. In the second round, Coin won a 6-1, 6-2 decision over North Carolina’s Kendall Cline. Coin is slated to play ninth-seeded Katie Granson of Duke on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Jayet fell in her first round singles match to the tournament’s number-four seed, Sarah Witten of Kentucky, by a score of 6-2, 6-1.

The pair was seeded sixth in the doubles draw and drew a bye in the first round of the doubles tournament before defeating North Carolina’s Kendall Cline and Lee Bairos by a score of 8-1 in the second round. The duo will play Furman’s Caroline Bentley and Mary Kovarik whom they have faced in the Furman Fall Classic and the Clemson Fall Invitational already this year. The Tigers won both meetings this fall. The match is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist will advance to play in the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships on Nov. 7-10 in Dallas, TX.
