Clemson’s Julie Coin Advances to Quarterfinals of ITA Southeast Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Sophomore Julie Coin advanced to the third round of the singles draw at the Omni Hotels/ITA Southeast Regional on Saturday at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. Clemson’s doubles team of Coin and Laurence Jayet were 1-1 in doubles matches on the day.

Coin, the seventh-seeded player in the tournament, defeated the ninth-seed Katie Granson of Duke by a score of 6-1, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. Coin is slated to play North Carolina’s Marlene Mejia, the tournament’s third seed, on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.

The Tigers’ doubles team of Coin and Laurence Jayet defeated Furman’s Mary Kovarik and Caroline Bentley by a score of 8-1 to reach the quarterfinal round of the doubles bracket. The pair, who was seeded sixth in the bracket, fell in the quarterfinals to third-seeded Jill Buckley and Amy Trefethen of Kentucky, 8-5.

The winning doubles team, winning singles player and the singles finalist will advance to play in the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships on Nov. 7-10 in Dallas, TX.
