Clemson’s Geren Wins National Three-Point Shooting Contest

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Women’s Basketball Player, Amy Geren won the women’s three-point shooting contest at St. Petersburg, FL late Thursday night.

From a field of the nation’s top women’s three-point shooters, Geren edged Kelly DeLong of Western Michigan 21-15 in the finals.

In the “Battles of the Sexes” Geren defeated the men’s champion, Jason Terry of Arizona 18-16. Terry was the Pac-10 Player-of-the-Year in 1999.

The three point shooting contest was shown Thursday night on ESPN.

Geren was named first-team All-ACC in 1998 and 1999. She led the team in scoring with a 13.5 ppg. average. She was 54-157 from the three point line this season with a .344 mark. She is tenth on the Clemson career list for most points with 1,402. She is also first on the school’s career list for best free throw pct. with an .848 mark.

Clemson finished the season with a school record 26 wins in 1998-99. The Lady Tigers advanced to the NCAA’s Final 16.

Geren and teammate Itoro Umoh will play in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star game Saturday in conjuction with the Women’s NCAA Final Four in San Jose, CA.
