Clemson Women’s Track & Field In Fifth At ACC Championships

ORLANDO, FL – The Clemson women’s track and field team is in fifth place after the first day of competition at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. North Carolina leads the league with 72 points while Virginia is second with 55 points. Florida State ranks third (47) and Georgia Tech is fourth with 44 points. Clemson is in fifth place with 29 points, NC State is sixth with 27 points and Maryland is seventh (22). Duke has 13 points for eighth place and Wake Forest is ninth with three points.

Lauren Nicholson is fourth in the heptathlon after the first day of competition. Nicholson posted a time of 15.04 in the 100m hurdles and a time of 25.48 in the 200m. She cleared 5’4 1/2″ in the high jump and recorded a mark of 29’7 1/2″ in the shot put to tally 2887 points for day one. Katrina Moultrie is 16th in the heptathlon, recording times of 16.55 and 26.83 in the 100m hurdles and 200m dash, respectively. She cleared 4’11 1/2″ in the high jump and had a mark of 26′ in the shot put to end the day with 2400 points.

Cydonie Mothersill recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11.49 in the preliminaries of the 100m dash while Shannon Murray also qualified for the finals with a time of 11.80. LaShonda Cutchin had a time of 12.00 in the preliminaries of the 100m. Mothersill also recorded a provisional qualifying time of 23.18 as she also qualified for the finals of the 200m dash. Shekera Weston qualified for the finals with a time of 23.94 while LaShonda Cutchin and Marcia Smith also qualified for the finals with times of 24.29 and 24.14, respectively. Four Lady Tigers also qualified for the finals in the 400m dash. Michelle Burgher posted a provisional qualifying time of 53.33 while Shekera Weston also recorded a provisional time of 53.67. Marcia Smith posted a time of 54.64 and LaShonda Cuthchin finished with a time of 54.72. Rebecca White competed in the 800m for the Lady Tigers, finishing the preliminaries with a time of 2:26.80. In the 1500m run, Perry Fields recorded the second-best time of the preliminaries (4:33.08), qualifying for the finals. Kristi Toothman finished 13th in the 10,000m run with a time of 39:48.11. Keke Elder and Nyjla Littlejohn qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles with times of 13.69 and 13.82, respectively. Michelle Burgher and Littlejohn also qualified for the finals with provisional times. Burgher moved to second on Clemson’s all-time list with a time of 58.58 while Littlejohn is fourth on Clemson’s all-time list with a time of 59.19.

In the field events, Jamine Moton won two events with provisional marks in each. She set a new school record in the hammer with a mark of 188’8″ as she claimed the conference title. Moton also claimed the discus with a provisional mark of 176’7″. Mary Gosselin competed in the hammer, finishing 17th overall with a mark of 121’8″, and was 17th in the javelin with a mark of 121’8″. Sheri Smith finished 12th in the long jump with a mark of 18’1 ” while Elizabeth Lord was ninth with a mark of 110’9″ in the javelin. Smith finished 12th in the long jump, recording a mark of 18’1 1/2″. Mandy McLane finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing 12’4″, while Costa was eighth with a mark of 11’10”. Sarah Ellis was 11th in the pole vault with a mark of 11’4 1/2″. Katie Pickett recorded a personal best of 5’7″ in the high jump and a fifth place finish, improving to fourth on Clemson’s all-time best list.

The ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships conclude tomorrow at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
