Clemson Women’s Tennis Team To Play Baylor In First Round Of NCAA Championships

CLEMSON, SC – The 19th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will take on #36 Baylor on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The match will be held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, NC and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. The winner of the match will take on the winner of 13th-seeded North Carolina and College of Charleston on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

This is the first meeting between the Tigers and the Bears. This season, Baylor is 11-12 overall with a 9-2 record in the Big 12. The Bears most recently fell to Colorado in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament after winning the conference regular season crown for the first time in school history.

Clemson is 18-5 overall and posted a 7-1 mark in the ACC to finish second in the regular season conference standings. In the 2003 ACC Championships, Clemson defeated Wake Forest in the first round, before falling to 11th-ranked North Carolina in the semifinals. Four members of the Tiger squad were named to the All-ACC team in 2003.

This is the Tigers’ 11th overall appearance in the NCAA Championships and the third consecutive appearance for head coach Nancy Harris. In the 2002 championships, Clemson defeated William & Mary in the first round before falling to Wake Forest in the second round. The Tigers’ best NCAA tournament finish was in 1996, when the team reached the Final Eight before falling to Stanford.
