Clemson Women’s Tennis Team Defeats Georgia Tech Thursday In Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA – The 21st-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated #41 Georgia Tech by a score of 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Complex in Atlanta. The Tigers improve to 16-3 overall and 5-0 in the ACC with the win, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Clemson swept the doubles matches to earn the team doubles point. At flight one, Daniela Alvarez and Maria Brito teamed up to win an 8-6 decision over the Yellow Jackets’ Kelly Anderson and Sekita Grant. The Tigers’ team of Julie Coin and Alix Lacelarie were victorious over Maria Nieto and Lyndsay Shosho of Georgia Tech by a score of 9-8(0) at number two doubles. Clemson’s Richele LeSaldo and Karen Rombouts defeated Kacie Anson and Alison Silverio at flight three by a score of 8-6.

In singles play, ninth-ranked Coin won a three-set decision (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) over #43 Shosho at flight one. Alvarez, ranked 63rd by the ITA in singles, dropped a 6-2, 7-6(5) decision to #82 Anderson at number two singles. The Tigers’ Brito defeated Silverio by a score of 6-4, 7-5 at flight three, while Lacelarie won a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Lindsey Stauss at the number four position. Clemson’s Rombouts lost a three-set match (2-6, 6-1, 6-2) to Grant at five singles, while LeSaldo dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Nieto at flight six.

Clemson will travel to Tallahassee, FL this weekend to face Florida State on Sunday afternoon. The match between the Tigers and the Seminoles is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
