Clemson Women?s Tennis Set for USTA/ITA Carolina Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Clemson women’s tennis team will participate in the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Tennis Championships this week at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The event features the top women’s tennis players from North Carolina and South Carolina in a singles and a doubles championship setting. Play is scheduled to begin on Oct. 18, with singles and doubles finals scheduled for Monday, Oct. 22. The doubles main draw is available, which features four Clemson players. Yana Koroleva and Beatrice Gumulya earned a 5-8 seed for the tournament, and received a first round bye. They’ll played the winner of Furman’s Kline and Moreno and NC A&T’s Colbert and Scott, who play at 3:30 on Thursday. Also playing Thursday at 3:30 are Tristen Dewar and Romy Koelzer, who take on Kharkevitch and Ritchie of UNC-Wilmington in the first round. The winner gets a date with Ester Goldfeld and Hanna Mar of Duke, this third seed in the draw. The singles main draw will be released after the qualifying rounds are completed in singles. Each of Clemson’s four attendees have been inserted into the Main Draw.Gumulya is Clemson’s lone ranked player, coming in at 83rd nationally. Koroleva is ranked seventh nationally among newcomers as well. The winner of the Regional will go on to the USTA/ITA Indoor National Championships in Flushing, NY from Nov. 8-11. Clemson has a history of success at the event, with Josipa Bek winning singles titles in 2008 and 2009, Bek and Keri Wong winning the doubles title in 2010 and 2011, and Nelly Ciolkowski advancing to the singles finals last year.
