Clemson Women’s Tennis Falls to #1 Georgia, 6-1

ATHENS, GA – The Clemson women’s tennis team fell to the first-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Friday afternoon in Athens by a score of 6-1. The Tigers record falls to 3-4 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 8-0.

The Tigers started out strong, winning two out of three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Clemson’s Milena Stanoycheva and Richele LeSaldo defeated Georgia’s team of Tina Hojnik and Mariel Verban by a score of 8-2 at number two doubles. The Tigers’ number three doubles team of Anna Savitskaya and Anna Dolinska were victorious over Georgia’s Anne Nguyen and Alex Smith, 8-8 (7-3). The Bulldogs’ Lori Grey and Agata Cioroch were defeated by Clemson’s Alix Lacelarie and Laurence Jayet by a score of 8-4 at number one doubles.

In singles play, Alix Lacelarie of Clemson fell to Agata Cioroch in a three-set match, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1, at the number one position. At flight two singles, Tiger Anna Savitskaya was defeated by Mariel Verban, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Clemson’s Laurence Jayet lost a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Georgia’s Anne Nguyen at number three singles. The Bulldogs’ Tina Hojnik won over Clemson’s Milena Stanoycheva, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 at flight four singles. At the five singles draw, Clemson’s Ioana Paun fell to Lori Grey of Georgia in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. Alex Smith earned the sixth point for the Bulldogs, defeating Anna Dolinska of Clemson by a score of 6-4, 6-1.

The Tigers will travel to Mobile to take on the South Alabama Jaguars on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
