May 24, 2007

ATHENS, GA – The Tiger women’s tennis doubles team of Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem advanced to the round of 16 of the 2007 NCAA Doubles Championships, held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. The Clemson tandem, ranked 11th in the Fila/ITA Tennis poll, defeated #22 Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft of Notre Dame in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the tournament. They now boast a 16-4 overall record and have won their last six decisions.

With the win, Mijacika and van Adrichem became just the fifth doubles team in Clemson women’s tennis history to reach to the second round of the national tournament and will attempt to become just the second to make the quarterfinals on Friday.

They will face the winner of Thursday evening’s match-up between the #6 team of Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk from Kentucky and UCLA’s 19th-ranked duo of Yasmin Schnack and Riza Zalameda in the round of 16.
