Clemson Women’s Tennis Defeats College of Charleston

CLEMSON, S.C.- The Clemson women’s tennis team won their first match of the season, defeating the College of Charleston by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon in Clemson. The Tigers are 1-0 on the season. In singles action, Clemson’s Anna Savitskaya defeated Gabriela Moreira by a score of 6-3, 6-2 at number one singles. At flight two singles, senior Tiger Milena Stanoycheva fell to the Cougar’s Rachel Magory in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 2-6. Clemson freshman Ioana Paun won at the three singles position, downing Mercella Valkenhoff by a score of 7-6, 5-7, 6-2. Ana Stiglic earned a victory at flight four singles for the Tigers, defeating Maike Hartung, 6-2, 6-2. Clemson’s Anna Dolinska was defeated by College of Charleston’s Whitney Malina by a score of 6-4, 6-0 at number five singles. In the number six position, the Tigers’ Sunnie Harmon fell to Cougar Renata Camargo, 6-4, 6-2. In doubles play, Clemson’s number one team of Savitskaya and Stanoycheva defeated Moreira and Valkenhoff, 8-2. Clemson was victorious at the two doubles position by a score of 8-2, over College of Charleston’s Magory and Hartung. The Tiger’s three doubles team of Richele LeSaldo and Ashlea Bowen fell to the Cougars’ Malina and Emily Scatuorchio, 8-5. The Tigers will return to action against Middle Tennessee State on Sunday, Feb. 3 at noon in Clemson.
