Clemson Women’s Tennis Completes first Day at ITA Carolina Regional Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Members of the Clemson women’s tennis team competed at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships held on the campus of Wake Forest on Thursday. The tournament feeds into the ITA Indoor National Championships, held from Nov. 6-9 in New Haven, CT. Freshman Caroline Magnusson won two matches during the qualifying draw in order to advance to the main draw.

Magnusson defeated Jennifer Ansari of Appalachian State, 6-1, 6-0 in the first round and Briana Berne of Elon, 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the main singles draw. Then, Magnusson teamed with sophomore Keri Wong to beat Andrea Rivera and Alex Zinn from Charlotte, 8-5. They will play Lenka Hojckova and Sandhya Nagaraj of NC State on Friday.

Laurianne Henry and Nelly Ciolkowski lost to Gina Suarez-Malaguti and Zoe DeBruycker from North Carolina, 8-4, knocking them out of the doubles draw.

In doubles action, Bek and Hadziselimovic, ranked 14^th in the nation, are the #2 overall seed. They had a first round bye, and will play Miki Bunea and Lexi Bolesky of Coastal Carolina on Friday.

Seven tigers are entered into the Main Draw for singles, including Ina Hadziselimovic and Keri Wong are both 9-16 overall seeds. Hadziselimovic will play Virginia Berry of Davidson and Wong will match up with Audrey LePottier of East Carolina.
