Clemson Women’s Tennis Claims Ninth Consecutive Victory With 6-1 Win Over Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Clemson women’s tennis team picked up its ninth consecutive victory with a 6-1 win over the Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday. The 15th-ranked Tigers improve to 14-6 overall and 5-1 in ACC matches. Clemson captured the doubles point for the ninth consecutive time en route to the match title.

The Tigers swept all three doubles matches to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 advantage into singles play. At flight one, 36th-ranked Julie Coin and Romy Farah defeated Virginia’s Douglas Wink and Rachel DelPriore by a score of 8-0. Clemson’s Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win over second-seeded Kristen James and Lori Stern. At flight three, Maria Brito and Carol Salge of Clemson held of the Cavaliers’ Lindsey Pereira and Caroline Hammond by a score of 9-7 to complete the sweep.

In singles, second-ranked and top-seeded Julie Coin kept her 29-match winning streak alive with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Cavaliers’ Kristen James. Virginia’s Rachel DelPriore picked up what would be the Cavaliers’ only point with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Clemson’s Romy Farah claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win over Douglas Wink of Virginia, and Carol Salge 6-3, 6-4 win over Lindsey Pereira at flight six singles rounded out the match.

The Lady Tigers will return to action next Saturday and Sunday as Clemson plays host to Miami and Florida State. Saturday’s match against the Hurricanes is slated to begin at 10:30 AM, while Sunday’s match against the Seminoles will get underway at 12:00 PM at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on the campus of Clemson University.
