Clemson Women’s Tennis Announces 2010-11 Schedule

Sept. 17, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson women’s tennis head coach Nancy Harris announced the 2010-11 schedule on Friday. The Tigers advanced to the Sweet 16 a season ago after earning the ninth overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and finishing the season ranked #11 in the nation.

Clemson is scheduled to play 11 of last season’s top 27 teams in the Final ITA rankings, including #3 North Carolina, #4 Baylor, and #9 Duke. In all, six ACC teams closed the 2010 season ranked in the top-25 nationally.

The 2010 fall season gets underway from Sept. 24-26 at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, SC. The tournament will be played in flights, with one player from each participating team in each flight.

That will serve as a tune-up for the Riviera ITA All-America Championships in Pacific Palisades, CA from Oct. 2-10. Junior Josipa Bek is a top-five seed in the tournament main draw, while Keri Wong is entered into the Qualification Draw. Sophomore Nelly Ciolkowski is entered into the pre-qualifying tournament. Keri Wong and Josipa Bek are ranked fifth nationally as a doubles team and will play in the main draw.

The Tigers will then compete at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships in Winston-Salem from Oct. 21-25, with a Nov. 4 trip to Flushing, NY for the ITA National Indoors on the line. The ITA National Indoors will conclude the fall season.

The Tigers open the indoor dual match portion of the season on Jan. 21 with Troy. The Tigers will then host two home doubleheaders on Jan. 22 and 25 before hosting the ITA National Team Indoors opening rounds. Clemson will host Vanderbilt, Dartmouth, and Marshall for the right to travel to the Final 16 in Charlottesville, VA from Feb. 18-21.

Before that, Clemson will host the Clemson Winter Classic, Furman, and Georgia in Tigertown in early February. Clemson defeated Georgia in Athens and in Clemson in the NCAA second round last season.

The Gamecocks of South Carolina come to town on Feb. 27, Clemson’s last match before ACC season starts.

The Tigers open the conference slate with Georgia Tech on Mar. 2 and Miami on Mar. 6 at home before going on the road for five straight. In addition to playing at Florida State and College of Charleston, Clemson will take on Florida State, Wake Forest, and NC State.

The Tigers return for a huge homestand with Boston College, Maryland, and Baylor, who finished 2010 ranked #4 in the nation. The Tigers then head to likely preseason top-ten teams in Duke and UNC on April 9 and 10, before hosting Virginia and Virginia Tech on April 16 and 17 to close out the regular season.

The Tigers open ACC Tournament play in Cary, NC on April 21, with NCAAs starting within two weeks after that.
