Clemson Women’s Soccer Team to Play Host to Western Carolina Sunday

Clemson, SC – The 20th-ranked Lady Tiger soccer team will play host to Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Riggs Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and admission is free to all home matches.

Clemson, ranked 20th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, is 3-0 on the season, most recently defeating #23 Long Beach State by a score of 2-1 on Friday night. Seniors Courtney Foster and Nuria Zufia scored the goals for the Lady Tigers against the 49ers and sophomore Molly Franklin assisted on both goals.

For Zufia, it was her fourth goal of the season. Foster, Franklin and five other Lady Tigers have one goal each on the season. Franklin has tallied five assists in Clemson’s first three contests, and Foster and junior Julie Bolt have three apiece. Senior preseason All-American goalkeeper Ashley Phillips has 10 saves on the young season.

Western Carolina improved to 3-1 with a 2-0 victory over Winthrop on Friday evening. Bri Cunningham leads the Catamounts with two goals and one assist and goalkeeper Caitlin Williams has recorded 15 saves in Western Carolina’s first four matches.

The Lady Tigers and the Catamounts have met once previously on the soccer field. In 2000, Clemson won a 4-0 decision over Western Carolina at Riggs Field.
