Clemson Women’s Soccer Team to Face Furman on the Road Friday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team will play its first road game of the 2012 season at Furman on Friday, August 24.  The game between the Tigers and Paladins will kick off at 7:00 PM at Stone Stadium in Greenville, SC.

The Tigers are 2-0 on the young season, having defeated Appalachian State (1-0) and North Florida (2-0) at Historic Riggs Field last weekend.  Sophomore forward Liska Dobberstein leads the team in scoring with two goals for four points.  She scored both goals in Clemson’s win over the Ospreys on Sunday.

Freshman midfielder Allie Kington has one goal and one assist on the season, and senior midfielder Maddy Elder and junior forward Tabitha Padgett have two assists apiece so far this year.  Freshman goalkeeper Hunter Rittgers has recorded 10 saves and two shutouts in her first two career games in goal for the Tigers.

Furman has a 1-1 record after defeating North Florida (2-0) at home and then falling to Georgia (2-1) on the road in last weekend’s action.  Hannah Stanifer leads the Paladins in scoring with one goal and one assist for three points.  Rose Hull and Maggie Grisell have both spent time in goal for the Paladins, and have combined to allow two goals and tally six saves.

Clemson has a 12-3-1 record in the series against Furman.  In 2011, the Paladins defeated the Tigers by a score of 3-2 in double overtime at Historic Riggs Field.  Dobberstein and junior midfielder Vanessa Laxgang scored Clemson’s goals in that game.
