Clemson Women’s Soccer Team Returns to Riggs Field to Face Wake Forest on Sunday

Clemson, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team will play host to Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at Riggs Field. The contest between the 20th-ranked Lady Tigers and the 21st-ranked Demon Deacons is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.

The Lady Tigers are 8-2-4 overall and 1-1-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference following a 2-2 double-overtime tie against N.C. State on Thursday night in Raleigh. Junior Julie Bolt and senior Elizabeth Jobe scored goals for Clemson, with Jobe’s goal coming in the 84th minute of regulation to tie the score and send the game to overtime.

Red-shirt senior Courtney Foster and sophomore Molly Franklin lead the Lady Tigers in scoring for the 2007 season with 12 points apiece. Foster has four goals and four assists, while Franklin has two goals and eight assists on the season. All-American goalkeeper Ashley Phillips has 53 saves and has allowed only eight goals in over 1150 minutes of play for Clemson.

Wake Forest has a 7-5-3 overall record and a 2-2-2 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference, most recently tying Duke 1-1 in double overtime in Winston-Salem. Jill Hutchinson leads Wake Forest with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Goalkeeper Laura Morse has 16 saves and has allowed eight goals for the Demon Deacons.

Clemson has a 12-2-3 all-time advantage in the series against Wake Forest, which dates back to the 1994 season. The Lady Tigers lead the Demon Deacons 7-1-2 in games played at Riggs Field. Clemson has won the two previous games in the series, and has not lost since the 1999 season. In 2006, the Lady Tigers upset #9 Wake Forest by a score of 2-1 at Riggs Field on October 15. Elizabeth Jobe both scored second-half goals in Clemson’s come-from-behind victory.
