Sept. 26, 2010

Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to Wake Forest on Sunday by a score of 4-0 at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC. With the loss, the Tigers’ record drops to 5-5 overall (0-2 ACC), while the Demon Deacons improve to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Wake Forest scored twice in the final three minutes of the first half, behind goals from Rachel Nuzzolese and Casey Luckhurst. Katie Stengel scored both Demon Deacon goals in the second half, on a penalty kick in the 49th minute, and in the 65th minute.

Clemson took four shots and had three corner kicks for the game, while the Demon Deacons took 15 shots and had eight corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Arnold posted three saves in the contest for the Tigers, while Aubrey Bledsoe had one save for Wake Forest.

“We started off well and were really disappointed to go down two goals before the half,” said Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “It took a lot of wind from our sail. It is tough to chase the game at that point, but the team never quit.

“We need to keep getting better with how we play without the ball and make more of the chances we create. Despite the score, this young team is moving in the right direction and is committed to one another.”

The Tigers will return to Historic Riggs Field to play host to Miami on Friday, October 1. The game will kick off at 3:00 PM and will be followed by a Clemson men’s soccer game versus St. Louis at 7:00 PM. Both games will be broadcast live on ClemsonTigers.com via TigerCast.
