CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to N.C. State by a score of 1-0 on Thursday night at Historic Riggs Field. The loss drops the Tigers’ record to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while the Wolfpack improves to 7-3 (1-0 ACC) with the win.

Neither team scored for the first 70 minutes of play, until the Wolfpack put the game’s lone goal on the board at the 70:15 mark. Ariela Schreibeis launched a shot at Tiger freshman keeper Lauren Arnold. Arnold made the save, but the rebound found its way to N.C. State’s Tanya Cain, who sent the ball into the lower right side of the net.

For the game, the Wolfpack took 25 shots and had seven corner kick opportunities, while Clemson had 12 shots and three corner kicks. There were three fouls called on each team. Arnold recorded 10 saves in the game, a career high for the freshman from Hoover, AL. Kim Kern posted seven saves in goal for N.C. State.

“I could not be more proud of this team,” said Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “We have been talking about making a statement about the way we want to play, and we really battled out there tonight. We were dangerous in the second half and created good chances.

“It is baptism by fire in this league, especially for the young players. Our backs are playing well. Lauren Arnold has been making quality saves, and has also made a few big-time saves, which can help swing the momentum our way.

“This is a difficult loss because we created enough quality chances that we could have had a different result here tonight, but I’m happy with how we fought and how resilient we were. I’m convinced that if we continue to do these things, the rest will fall into place.”

The Tigers will return to action on Sunday, September 26 when they travel to Winston-Salem, NC to face Wake Forest. The game will kick off at 1:00 PM at the Demon Deacons’ Spry Stadium.
