Clemson Women’s Soccer Team Defeats North Florida on Sunday Afternoon

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team defeated North Florida by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Historic Riggs Field.  Sophomore forward Liska Dobberstein scored both goals for the Tigers, who improved to 2-0 with the win.  The Ospreys fell to 0-2 with the loss.

The Tigers put the game’s first goal on the board in the 32nd minute.  Senior midfielder Maddy Elder passed to freshman midfielder Allie Kington wide on the right side.  Kington crossed the ball to Dobberstein, who headed it into the lower right corner of the goal from the left side.

Dobberstein scored her second goal of the game, and the season, in the 59th minute.  Junior forward Tabitha Padgett picked up a loose ball near the left sideline and sent it in to Dobberstein, who headed it into the top right corner of the net from inside the box.

Clemson took 15 shots in the game to North Florida’s seven, and the Tigers had four corner kicks compared to the Osprey’s two.  Freshman keeper Hunter Rittgers tallied five saves and recorded her second consecutive win and shutout for Clemson, while Rachel Beninati recorded four saves for North Florida.

“It’s always good to get a win,” said Head Coach Eddie Radwanski, “but constructively, I would still like to see us put more of our chances away.  The challenge is for us to be more consistent with our performance in the second game of the weekend.  We came out a little bit flat today and we need to correct that.

“The subs that came in the game in the first half really gave us a lift and the energy level went up from there.  That was one of the positives from today; everybody that played made a contribution.  If we can get consistency with that, we’ll be in good shape.”

The Tigers will return to action on Friday, August 24 as they travel to Greenville, SC to face Furman.  The game between Clemson and the Paladins will begin at 7:00 PM at Stone Soccer Stadium.
