Clemson Women Set for Indoor Track & Field Opener

The Lady Tiger track & field team will get the 2006-07 indoor season underway this weekend by competing in the Clemson Opener. The event, which will be held at Clemson’s indoor track & field complex, marks the first meet of the indoor campaign for www.clemsontigers.com for Saturday.

Clemson will feature several newcomers this season, especially in the sprints. Ra’Sheena Parker, a transfer from Charleston Southern. Ope Sobanjo will compete in all the sprints this weekend as well.

In the 60m hurdles, Polly Hardy and Krystal Barringer are entered for the Lady Tigers. Hardy was a regional qualifier in the high hurdles during the 2006 outdoor season. Clemson will also have a pair of teams in the 4x400m relay, which will be held Saturday afternoon at approximately 5:20 PM.

In the high jump, returning student-athletes Anni Korhonen will be featured for Clemson. Joining those two in the high jump will be Michelle Rogers, a senior, and Anastasia Wilson, a freshman. Both those competitors will be in the long jump and triple jump as well. Barringer and freshman Nakeisha Wineglass (Alexandria, VA) will also compete in the long jump Friday at 5:30 PM, and in the triple jump Saturday morning at 11.

The pole vault is scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday and the Lady Tigers will have three student-athletes competing in that event. Leading the way for Clemson in that area is the school’s indoor record-holder, senior Beth Jordan. She cleared 12’9.5″ last season. Helen Kirkland.

The weight throw, presumed to be one of the strongest areas on the Clemson team, features a returning All-ACC performer in senior Della Clark. She ranks second in school history with a mark of 62’0.5″. Not far behind her in fourth place in the Clemson record books is sophomore Rochelle Kokayko, who scored at ACCs in the event for the Lady Tigers last season. Catheryne Porter will also compete in the weight throw Friday at 7:30 PM.
