Clemson Women Move to No. 4 in National Ratings; Pair of Tigers Earn Weekly ACC Honors

Jan. 24, 2012

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s track & field team moved up a spot to No. 4 in this week’s national ratings, the USTFCCCA announced Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, the Atlantic Coast Conference named its Performers-of-the-Week and Clemson freshman Dezerea Bryant was honored for the women and Spencer Adams was a co-recipient for the men’s team.

The women’s team features seven student-athletes currently ranked in the national top 10 of a respective event, all in the sprints and hurdles. Bryant, who was named this week’s ACC Performer-of-the-Week, is No. 2 nationally in both the 60 and 200. She won the latter last weekend at the Auburn Invitational, and established the program’s second-best time ever in the 60 with a 7.25 in a bronze medal finish.

Also among the women, Stormy Kendrick is ranked fifth in the country in the 60-meter dash. Clemson has three of the nation’s top ranked hurdlers, including No. 1 overall in Brianna Rollins at 8.07. Bridgette Owens and Jasmine Edgerson are also among the nation’s top 10 so far this indoor season.

In men’s track & field, Adams was named co-recipient of the ACC Performer-of-the-Week honor with Florida State’s Kemar Hyman. It is the second such honor of his track career, and his first in 2011-12. Adams clocked a NCAA-qualifying time of 7.68 and was runner-up last weekend at Auburn in the 60 hurdles. He was the top collegiate finisher, however, and boasts the nation’s second-fastest time in the event so far this indoor season.
