Clemson Women Head to Oklahoma

Clemson, S.C—Clemson will play its second tournament of the fall season at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma.   Clemson is one of 15 teams in the national field that will include ACC schools Florida State and Notre Dame. The University of Oklahoma’s Belmar Golf Club will be the site of the tournament that will run from Saturday, September 23 through Monday, September 25.

Clemson will have the same lineup it used at the Mason Rudolph Championship last weekend.   Clemson’s top player last weekend was junior Alice Hewson, who finished in eighth place in the 80 player field with a 210 score, six-under par. It was her 10th career top 10 in her three years at Clemson.   She had a second round 66 that tied for the second best round in Clemson history.

Hewson had one of her best tournaments at Belmar last year when she finished with a 203 score, 10 under par.  She had rounds of 66-70-67 on the 6,578 yard course.

Ana Paula Valdes had a strong tournament with a pair of 70s surrounding a second round 73. She finished 22nd with a 213 score to rank second among the Tigers.

Marisa Messana is a senior who will be playing in her 31st career tournament at Clemson. She had a career best 68 at this event last year in the second round, helping Clemson to a third place finish. She had a second round 70 at the Mason Rudolph last weekend.

Ashley Czarnecki and Kennedy Swann are a pair of sophomores who will be in the lineup for head coach Kelley Hester. Neither young lady was at Clemson last fall and obviously did not play in this tournament. Czarnecki had a career best 220 score at the Mason Rudolph, while Swann finished at 229. She was a key to Clemson’s drive to a 20th place national finish last year
