Clemson Women 11th at ACC Cross Country Championships

Earlysville, VA – The Clemson women’s cross country team finished 11th at the ACC Championships, which were held Saturday at Panorama Farms near the University of Virginia. N.C. State won the team competition with 59 points, while Duke was runner-up at an 88-point total. Julia Lucas of N.C. State won the individual crown.

Clemson improved on its position from a year ago. Laura Laughlin, a newcomer to the team this season, was the top finisher in 53rd place. She had a 6K time of 23:15.3 in her first-ever trip to the conference championships. The Lady Tigers’ second runner Saturday was Patrice McMillan was right behind in 73rd, totaling a 6K time of 24:07.

The Lady Tigers’ final two scorers Saturday were Maggie Bernard and Ashley Vaughn, both first-year freshmen. Bernard was 81st, while Vaughn came home 84th. Also competing Saturday for the Lady Tigers were Thea Dix (85th, 25:38.3), Lisa Brown (86th, 25:46.9), and Lauren Klas (88th, 26:06.4).

The Lady Tigers will return to action in two weeks for the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, KY.
