Clemson Wins Bahamas Sun Splash Championship

NASSAU, BAHAMAS-Chrissy Floyd scored 26 points and won tournament MVP honors as Clemson defeated Oakland (MI) 70-67 in the championship game of the Bahamas Sun Splash Women’s Basketball Shootout at Nassau, Bahamas Sunday night. With the win, Clemson improves to 7-2 and Oakland drops to 3-5.

Floyd was 10-21 from the field 4-6 from the three-point line and 2-4 from the free throw line. She also had two assists and two steals. Clemson’s Leah Roper finished the contest with 10 points. Freshman center Amanda White had nine rebounds as the Lady Tigers won the battle of the boards 39-37.

For the game, Clemson shot 42.2 pct. from the field (27-64) and Oakland shot 25-57 for a .421 pct. Oakland was led in scoring by Katie Wolfe with 26 points. Teammate Jayme Wilson had eight rebounds.

In the first half, Clemson overcame a 22-8 deficit with 9:28 left in the first half and went on a 22-6 run to take the lead at the half, 30-28. Floyd had 15 points in this Lady Tiger rally. Oakland was up by six, 52-46 with 9:02 remaining in the game. From this point, Floyd scored five points in Clemson’s 11-4 run as the Lady Tigers took a 57-56 lead with 4:11 left.

The Lady Tigers’ Lakeia Stokes along with Floyd were both named to the All-Tournament team. The Lady Tigers’ Head Coach Jim Davis has led Clemson to 13 regular season tournament titles in his 16-year career at Clemson.
