Clemson Wins ACC Opener

Raleigh, N.C. – Jodi Steffes and Meredith Kirtland led a balanced attack to lead Clemson past NC State in the Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball opener for each team.

The Tigers downed the Pack in five games, 15-17, 15-4, 15-13, 12-15 and 15-10. Clemson improved to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in league play with the victory, while NC State dropped to 5-7.

Jodi Steffes had 15 kills and just three errors, with a match-high 18 digs to lead the Tigers. Meredith Kirtland had 15 kills,15 digs and two service aces, while Anne Berki had a match high five block assists and one solo block. Setter Jessi Betcher had 47 assists, a service ace, 17 digs and a block assist for the Tigers.

The Wolfpack was led by Charee Williams with 22 kills and 13 digs with a solo and a block assist. Meredith Price led NC State in digs with 16. Crystal Shannon dished out a match-high 70 assists with two service aces and 11 digs.

The Tigers travel to the University of North Carolina on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. match.
