Clemson Will Play Host to #6 North Carolina Friday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s soccer team will play host to the defending National Champion and sixth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels Friday night at 7:00 p.m. on Historic Riggs Field. Clemson is on a three-match winning streak.  The Tigers defeated N.C. State two weeks ago at home and won over Virginia last Friday and UNC-Greensboro this week on the road.  The Tigers have a 4-5-2 record overall and a 2-1-1 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Manolo Sanchez has two goals and four assists for eight points to lead the Tigers.    Clemson’s Austin Savage has scored three goals this season. North Carolina has an 8-1-1 record this season.  The Tar Heels have a 3-0-1 mark in the ACC.  This season, both teams have tied Wake Forest and defeated Virginia in ACC play. The Tar Heels are led by Andy Craven with four goals and two assists for 10 points.  Martin Murphy has four goals and one assist for nine points. This will be the 56th meeting between Clemson and North Carolina on the soccer field.  The Tigers lead the overall series 27-22-6.  When playing at Clemson, the Tigers lead the series 15-6-4.  When Clemson plays North Carolina and the Tar Heels are ranked sixth, the Tigers are 2-0 in these matches.  Clemson defeated the sixth-ranked Tar Heels in 2001 and in 2003. During the match, a lucky fan will be selected for a chance to win $10,000 in a “Kick for Cash” contest that will be held during halftime.
