Clemson Notes:

  • Clemson faces South Carolina State after winning its opener against Kennesaw State, 41-28, on Nov. 10.
  • Freshman Destiny Thomas opened the scoring against Kennesaw State with a steal and layup 90 seconds into the game. It was the first two points scored in the NCAA Division I women’s basketball season, as the game between the Tigers and Owls was the first to tip off in 2017-18.
  • Junior point guard Danielle Edwards led the Tigers in scoring with seven points, while five other Tigers (Jaia Alexander, Tylar Bennett, Francesca Tagliapietra, Destiny Thomas and Kobi Thornton) each scored six.
  • Alexander and Sirah Diarra recorded seven rebounds apiece to lead the team in that category.
  • Defensively, the Tigers held the Owls to 18.2% (10-55) from the floor.
  • Clemson is coming off of a 2016-17 season in which the team made dramatic improvements, winning 11 more games than the previous season to finish the year with a 15-16 record, including a win over Virginia Tech in the first round of the 2017 ACC Tournament, the program’s first ACC tournament win since the 2014 season.

South Carolina State Notes:

  • This is the second straight game against an ACC opponent for the Lady Bulldogs, as they opened the season this afternoon against Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets won, 86-40.
  • South Carolina State finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 5-23 record.
  • The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Clemson on Dec. 18, 2016 and left with a 56-36 defeat.
