Clemson vs. Butler Postgame Quotes

Clemson Head Coach Oliver Purnell “Overall, I am thrilled with the win in what was a great college game. Both teams weren’t playing pretty. It was a battle out there. We battled guards all night long, but towards the end we started to make plays. We had some defensive mistakes that allowed them to retake the lead, but we ran some good offenses out of time outs and got back in it.”

(on Trevor Booker being ill) “I knew he was feeling weak and thought maybe it was because of the three-day tournament. Today I knew something was wrong with him because he looked pretty weak. I tried to nurse him through the game by resting him more. He got better as the game went on, but I knew he was feeling a little weak.”

(on the upcoming ACC/Big-10 Challenge and critics saying it’s the Big-10’s best chance to win) “We listen to what is being said. We want to win every competition, especially when there is conference bragging rights on the line. It’s great PR and great for recruiting if the conference comes out on top.”

Player Demontez Stitt (on his free throws) “My teammates had all the confidence in the world in me. I tried to get to the line by creating floaters. I was confident I could make them. It definitely reminded me of the Mississippi State game.”

Player Trevor Booker (on being ill) “I started feeling a cold coming on the last few days. I was a little nauseous before the game. As I started to play more, I started to feel better. I’ll be ok.

Butler Head Coach Brad Stevens (Opening Comments) – “I thought we did a lot of things well today, but Clemson did as well. I think they got us a couple times in transition late in the game, but other than that, I thought we played pretty well. It was a pretty gutsy performance by Clemson at the free throw line with 3.3 seconds left and we have to give them credit in the great game they played. They definitely put pressure on us and they got us in the ending seconds.”
