BOULDER, CO – The Clemson volleyball team picked up its first win of the season Saturday night, defeating Oral Roberts, 3-1. The Tigers won the first game 30-27, then dropped the second game 26-30 before claiming the final two games by scores of 30-20 and 30-24.

The Tigers posted a .326 hitting percentage as a team, while holding Oral Roberts’ hitting percentage to .229. Clemson also tallied 12.5 team blocks compared to the Golden Eagles’ three team blocks.

Freshman Lori Ashton led four Tigers in double figures in kills, recording a team-high 18 kills and a match-high .516 hitting percentage with five blocks. Junior Anne Berki tallied 17 kills with a .424 hitting percentage and a match-high six blocks. Senior Jodi Steffes recorded 16 kills with 10 digs, and freshman Ryane Beasley added 15 kills with 15 digs and five blocks (one solo). Jessi Betcher led the team in assists with 62, and added 11 digs and three blocks. Stephanie Haskell and Meredith Kirtland also recorded double-figures in digs, with 14 and 13, respectively. Kirtland also recorded a team and match-high two service aces.

“We are very pleased with the way we played as a team,” said head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover. “We passed very well which enabled us to run a balanced offense and so we were able to get the ball to the middle hitters, who did a great job. The team also played much better defensively.”

The Tigers (1-1) will play their final match at the Colorado Powerbar Invitational Sunday afternoon against #23 Loyola Marymount.
