Clemson Volleyball Team Drops Season Opener To Colorado

BOULDER, CO. – The Clemson volleyball team opened its 2001 season Friday night against the University of Colorado at the Powerbar Invitational. The Lady Tigers dropped their season opener 3-1 (31-29, 15-30, 17-30, 26-30) on Friday night at the Coors Events Center.

The Lady Tigers had three players in double figures in kills, and were led by senior Jodi Steffes who hit .300 for the night with 12 kills and seven digs. Freshman Lori Ashton also recorded 12 kills with a .214 hitting percentage in her first collegiate match, and red-shirt freshman Ryane Beasley tallied 11 kills. Junior Jessi Betcher led Clemson in assists with 47 and recorded 10 digs while freshman Leslie Finn had a team-high 12 digs.

Colorado’s Monique Gerlach led all hitters with 21 kills and a .469 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Gower handed out a match-high 62 assists, and Sonja Russell tallied 16 digs. The Buffaloes recorded a team hitting percentage of .352 while the Lady Tigers were held to .162 as a team.

Clemson (0-1) looks to pick up its first win of the season Saturday evening as it plays Oral Roberts University (0-1) on the second day of the Powerbar Invitational.
