Clemson Volleyball Takes on Georgia Wednesday Evening

April 3, 2012

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Volleyball team will meet the University of Georgia squad in an exhibition match to be played at Jervey Gym at 6:00 pm on Wednesday. The teams will play a best-of-five match, in what will be Clemson’s only home appearance on the spring schedule. The match is free and open to the public.

Clemson won a 3-1 decision at Furman last week, will play Georgia Wednesday, and then travels to Columbia to take on South Carolina next Wednesday. They were originally slated to go to Georgia Southern in two weeks, but are no longer scheduled to make that trip.

The Tigers return five of six starters from last season’s team, in which they went 20-11 and 12-8 in ACC play. Clemson was a stellar 11-2 at Jervey last season on their way to 20 wins for the fourth time in five seasons.

Cansu Ozdemir was the lone scholarship player top leave, as she graduated during the 2011 season. The Tigers return All-ACC players Sandra Adeleye, Alexa Rand, and Serenat Yaz. Also back is USA Junior National Team member Mo Simmons, as well as setter Hannah Brenner and libero Natalie Patzin.

Clemson and Georgia have met 42 times in regular season matches, but not since 2005. Georgia holds a 30-12 mark all-time against the Tigers in fall play.
