Oct. 19, 2009

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Volleyball team will play host to the Charlotte 49ers at 7:00 pm at Jervey Gymnasium in a rare non-conference match in the middle of the ACC season. The Tigers enter at 14-6 overall, while the 49ers are 14-8 on the season, and 5-2 in the Atlantic-10. Clemson will close the season with eight of their final twelve matches at home.

Clemson enters the match having won five of the past seven overall. Charlotte has been hot as well, winning ten of their past 12, with one of their losses to nationally-ranked Saint Louis. Clemson holds a 19-2 all-time series edge with the 49ers, but the teams have not met since 2006.

Charlotte has three players currently averaging more than two kills per set and hit .202 as a team, while holding teams to a .191 mark. They are an above average blocking team as well, averaging 2.25 per set.

Both Clemson and Charlotte have match up with Furman and Presbyterian College this season, with both teams winning against PC and Charlotte taking the loss against Furman. Charlotte also defeated Wake Forest in the first match of the season, a team which Clemson will play for the first time on Saturday.

The Tigers lead the ACC in blocking and are among the top in hitting pct. and hitting pct. allowed. Danielle Hepburn in 2005. Senior Lia Proctor is second in the ACC in kills/set at 3.70, and needs only 25 attacks to tie current assistant coach Jodi SteffesWelp for seventh on the all-time attacks list.

After the midweek matchup with Charlotte, Clemson will prepare to take on Duke and Wake Forest in ACC action this weekend in Jervey Gymnasium. Clemson will play Duke at 7:00 pm on Friday, while taking on Wake Forest in a Dig Pink event on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
