Clemson Volleyball Falls In ACC Tournament First Round To Maryland

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The No. 8 seeded Maryland Terrapins defeated the No. 7 seeded Clemson Tigers in three games to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Championship held on the campus of Wake Forest University. The Terps defeated the Tigers 15-12, 15-6 and 15-11 improving their record to 14-15 while Clemson dropped to 13-18 on the season.

Pacing Maryland was sophomore outside hitter Carey Brennan who recorded 17 kills, 13 digs and a .406 hitting percentage. Sophomore Lindsay Davey recorded 39 assists in the contest while picking up eight digs from the setter position. As a team, the Terrapins finished the contest with 49 kills, 54 digs and a .270 hitting percentage.

For the Tigers, junior right-side hitter Jodi Steffes knocked down a team-high 20 kills as well as recording nine digs and .390 hitting percentage. Running the Clemson offense was sophomore setter Jessi Betcher who finished the match with 39 assists and 11 digs. The Tigers had 47 kills, 52 digs and a .206 hitting percentage in the three game match.

Maryland advances to Friday’s quaterfinal match when they will face the No. 2 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels. The game will be played at 4:30 pm.
