Clemson Volleyball Announces 2010 Spring Schedule

March 16, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – Head Volleyball Coach Jolene Jordan Hoover announced a three-date spring schedule for the program on Tuesday. Clemson will travel to the Atlanta Invitational on April 4, host the Clemson Tournament on April 10, and will play Furman on April 15.

The Atlanta Invitational matches will be split between Georgia State’s facilities and Georgia Tech’s gym, and features 11 division-I teams, including three NCAA Tournament participants in Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Florida State. The Tigers will match up with Auburn at 9:00 am in the first match, and will go on form there to play South Alabama or College of Charleston at 11:00 am.

The Clemson Tournament takes place in Jervey Gymnasium on April 10, and features Clemson, Winthrop, and Charlotte. The schedule pits Clemson and Winthrop head-to-head at 10:00 am, followed by Winthrop and Charlotte at 11:30 am, and concludes with Clemson taking on Charlotte at 1:00 pm.

Clemson’s final match will come against Furman at 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 15 in Jervey Gymnasium. Clemson defeated Furman, 3-2 in the 2009 season. Furman is coached by former Clemson star Michelle (Thieke) Young.

The Tigers lost four seniors from last season’s 23-10 campaign, which saw Clemson reach the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season. The Tigers fell to the #14 overall seed, Oregon, in Lexington.

Clemson lost All-ACC performers Lia Proctor, and Didem Ege. Ege was also the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 after setting the ACC record for digs.

However, Cansu Ozdemir is Clemson’s lone senior for 2010.
